With an extremely poor list of options for the 2008 presidential candidacy, I think I should perhaps toss my own hat in the ring. Why not? I meet all the required criteria, which is actually pretty simple. Essentially, aside from votes, all that's required to be President of the United States of America is to be an American citizen, (as in BORN in America,) and be over the age of 35. That's it.
Why should I be president when there's so many candidates out there already? Probably because I seem to actually have the most in common with Americans. LEGAL Americans that is. I actually WORK for a living. I DON'T get, (let alone come near to affording) $400.00 hair cuts. I pay my taxes just like every other law-abiding citizen. And I have an OFFER to hand the country that I doubt any other candidate, on either side of the fence is willing to make.
What is that offer? Here it is. Below you will see a list of my stances, views and outlooks. My offer is simple, "If I go against my posted principles, I would resign from the presidency in a heartbeat." Now, that doesn't include my goals, as in things I would be attempting to accomplish while in office. No one can control that, only influence it. But if I were to change my position on my stances mid-term, that means I gained the office on false pretenses. And no one deserves to be led by a person who does that.
So without further ado, here are my stances and brief descriptions of why I stand where I do:
- Abortion: I am AGAINST all forms of abortion, but I understand that there are SOME circumstances that it may be the only alternative. Women can't control when/if they are raped. A 13 year old girl can't control being molested. Where as I would hope that they would consider taking the child to term, I understand that it is a burden they were neither prepared for or desired. Under these conditions, I reluctantly say OK. As for abortion being used as a ready form of birth control, get your tubes tied, or be prepared to file a Police Report for rape every time you head into Planned (Genocide) Parenthood.
- Illegals and Immigration: Where's the fence?! My question exactly. No, I am not in favor of a posse style rounding up of the 30 million+ illegals in our country and deporting them. And by all accounts, neither is the majority of the country. I, like most people, DO FAVOR harsh penalties for companies that hire illegals, Law Enforcement checking for legalized status, and getting the Border fence (as described in the 9/11 report) built, and built quickly. I also believe a REAL increase in the Border Patrol agencies staffing is needed, as well as a return to PRE-1960's level of Immigration which was under 200k immigrants a year allowed into the American fold. Attrition through enforcement.
- Taxes: There is NEVER a reason for increasing taxes. As a matter of fact, if the average American really knew how many taxes they pay, we would already be in a revolt against the government. And NO, the war in Iraq did NOT cause that bridge to collapse. Infrastructure is paid for by the individual STATES. Not the Federal Government. And I would be more than happy to follow in Reagan's footsteps if necessary. HE shut the government down, I would too if it came down to it.
- War in Iraq/Afghanistan: If you've read my profile, you'd see that I definitely support our troops having been one myself. NO, you can NOT support the troops and oppose the war. The Troops believe in what they are doing, so do I. I was over there for the first world tour of the middle east. I knew we'd eventually have to go back. And sure enough we did. To say you don't support the war means you don't believe in what THEY believe in. I do believe that the Iraqi government needs some prodding, but the conditions on the ground are improving greatly. Let the Troops get their job done WITHOUT political interference.
- Global Warming & Kyoto: I could care less that the Gore-acle won a Nobel for his circus slide show. Global warming is a farce, And the Kyoto crap would destroy the financial fabric of America. Not exactly a good way to lead America, especially when no one else is adhering to it. Don't count on me to bow to environmentalists.
- Medical Research: Stem cell research is promising, provided it's the RIGHT kind of research. Embryonic is NOT the right kind. It's been around as long as the others (being adult and now cord blood) and has produced NO positive gains. Unless tumorous masses are a good thing to you. Don't look for me to be getting my picture taken with Michael J. Fox when elected. Sorry Mikey, you got played by the pro-cloning crowd. They could care less about you. Which leads me to another aspect. Cloning. Leave it to sci-fi movies, NOT reality. If you want to clone sheep or cows to boost the food supply or something, great. I will not support human cloning, at all.
- Guns: I don't currently own any firearms. But if your not convicted of a felony, or violent crime, AND are mentally stable, YOU SHOULD be allowed to carry. Criminals don't care about gun laws, they will carry anyways. It's about time Americans were allowed to defend themselves, and criminals tend to act less when they are unaware if their victim is armed. The reason for the second amendment was not only for a standing militia, but to keep the government "in check" from becoming a dictatorship. Thomas Jefferson, writing to William Smith said, "..the tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure." Lock and Load and join the NRA.
That's just a taste of my positions on some of the bigger issues. I've had those stances in life for some time now, and am not likely to deviate from them for any reason. Need more? OK, here's some of the goals I would be attempting to accomplish while in office. Odds are they wouldn't come to fruition due to the lack of cooperation in the House and Senate, but hey, one can dream right?
Cuts in funding for the inane. Do you know you can get a government grant to study the reasoning behind something as stupid as why a persons weight doesn't alter after an extremely large bowel movement? And guess where that money comes from. Yeah, your pocket. It's a waste of taxpayers money and needs to go. How much money would be better spent on education, public safety or REAL medical research if this kind of misuse of funding were stopped? Anyone for finding a cure for breast cancer?
Flat tax and an end to the IRS. As I listed above, Americans already pay way too much in taxes. And even pay taxes two or more times for the same thing. The tax code needs serious reformation and many of our taxes can essentially be dumped. For those who are LEGAL citizens of America, a flat tax of about 16%-21% would be satisfactory to keep America moving forward. The percentage would essentially be based on if you have kids or not and how many. YOU would not have to fill out another tax form again, ever, other than an initial form when you get a new job. The tax would be deducted from your paycheck before you ever see it. No muss, no fuss. The IRS would be regulated to collecting the tax from the companies themselves, and investigating whether or not they are using illegal labor. You'd never have to hear from Uncle Sam again.
Tax bonuses. A hard earned paycheck is something to savor. A profitable business is something to be happy with. A good work ethic is something to be proud of as well as time with family. Tax bonuses would be granted to companies that require seasonal employees that hire ACTIVE students. If your a drop out, get your butts back in school. OMG, "A Day Without A Mexican" just got blown out of the water there didn't it since all those jobs would be filled with working students. Kind of puts a dent in the drop-out rate too doesn't it.
Federal Assistance. The Constitution says that it's the Governments job to defend us against foreign invaders. So unless your prepared to prove that Hurricane Katrina was caused by North Korea, it is NOT the responsibility of the Federal Government to rebuild your city. They should, as stated however, provide for the GENERAL WELFARE. FEMA's job would be to ensure that the individual states themselves are prepared for disaster, and provide assistance where needed. You elected your governors, senators and congressmen, make sure they actually CARE about you, and the federal government will bring the support. Reagan once said,"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." I agree, FEMA would make sure your states officials are accountable to you, its citizenry during a disaster, and not standing around trying to blame anyone but themselves.
Energy and Oil. The caribou will have to cope. Alaska is prime drilling for oil. Currently, at the time of this article being written, Oil is at about $86.00 per barrel. A note to OPEC that the US will begin drilling in Alaska and our offshore areas would cause the price of oil to drop drastically. The U.S. has done this before, and it sent oil plummeting to about $30.00 a barrel. But this time, let's actually go through with it. Not only would we have a constant "cheap" supply of oil from outside America, but as production from our own sources comes under way, it would STAY cheap. BUT, this drilling would be under strict scrutiny. Oil companies would be required to restore lands with vegetation. So if they drill, they will be planting MANY trees and grasslands throughout the country. Fair trade.
This just a tad sampling of my goals and ambitions as President should I be elected. But hey, it may not even come to that. How about burying your boots in the CURRENT candidates political asses and get them on the band wagon. Then perhaps you won't have to worry about writing me in on the ballot.
