Gay Marriage: A BOON For The Economy?

Well, there are now currently two states that welcome same sex marriages. One of them being California at least for the moment, as a stay is being requested until the upcoming elections. Although California Governor Schwarzenegger doesn't directly/openly support gay marriage for the most part, he seems to hope the recent ruling will bring growth to the state.

That's funny, and here I thought removing the 10 million+ illegals in California alone, would be a better thing for the economy.

Go figure.

The Gover-nator's spokesman Aaron McLear asserted that the Governor's remark was meant as a lighthearted joke. In sort of a "tongue-in-cheek" manner. Okay, I can give him that one. But with the $5 billion+ that the state is in need of repaying to it's citizens, it's unfortunate that gay marriage is being counted on to help with that.

Especially since it's possible that the marriages may only be a temporary thing. Since due to be included in the upcoming elections in California, is a state constitutional amendment to have traditional marriage made the norm here. As per attorney Andrew Pugno, who is representing the amendment initiative backers, the invitation to come to California to get married only to possibly have it revoked sends a confusing message.

And with over 1.2 million signers on that petition, it's pretty likely although not guaranteed to pass. Here's the page about it; http://protectmarriage.com/

On this initiative, Schwarzenegger is showing his support of gay marriage as he does oppose the amendment. Schwarzenegger was quoted as having said, "he personally defines marriage as between a man and a woman but that he does not 'want to force that opinion on anyone.'"

How do you do that? "I oppose your amendment, but I support what it stands for?" That makes sense. Let's not send any more confusing messages there Arnold. M'kay?

But hey, this is California....

There's some more HERE.
